1. IT IS ILLEGAL TO LET A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE (eg REFRIGERATION GAS) INTO THE ATMOSPHERE.

Engage only qualified persons to install, commission, service or decommission your fridges, freezers, and air conditioners.  This is a responsibility of an owner or person in possession of a controlled article (appliance that holds refrigeration gas).  If you are going to dump a fridge, freezer, or air conditioner it should be decommissioned (gas taken out) first.  PENALTIES for ignoring this regulation are high.  When decommissioning Fridges and Freezers, the doors should be removed as well as the electrical cords cut off the appliance

2. AS WARRANTY AGENTS FOR A PARTICULAR BRAND OF APPLICANCE – WE DON’T MAKE THEM AND WE DON’T BREAK THEM.

We provide warranty service for everything we sell as a “ONE STOP SHOP” for your air conditioning and refrigeration needs. If there are any delays in parts, it is NOT OUR FAULT!   “Remember: The Bitterness of Poor Quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.”

3. AS WARRANTY AGENTS WE ARE PROVIDING A SERVICE TO MORANBAH.

You will find that more and more appliance businesses are not doing warranty because they do not get paid to – attend your residence, find the fault, return to the workshop, order the part, and then return to fit the part.  This is why we get the customer to being the appliance to us.  If only tradespersons didn’t have to get paid and vehicles ran on thin air!   “Remember: The Bitterness of Poor Quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.”

4. WHEN YOU PURCHASE A LESSER KNOWN BRAND OF APPLIANCE OR AIR CONDITIONER.

Check to see if there is any “AFTER SALES SERVICE”.  Is your installer local – can they return to fix an installation fault, so it doesn’t cost you to get someone else, because installation faults are not covered under warranty.  Do they do the warranty work for this brand of air conditioner or appliance?  Will you wait months and months (especially in the middle of summer when your air conditioner is not working) for them to return – if they return at all?  “Remember: The Bitterness of Poor Quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.”

5. DO NOT VOID YOUR WARRANTY.

Make sure your installer is qualified.  A lot of Companies are now requesting a copy of not only your proof of purchase, but a copy of the installers invoice which should state your installers ABN, Refrigeration Licence Number, Electrical Licence Number etc, other wise you will VOID your warranty.  This can be a very expensive mistake.  “Remember: The Bitterness of Poor Quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.”

6. AIR CONDITIONING THERMOSTATS.

Set at the coolest position (usually at position 10 or 16 to 18 degrees C) can cause the room-side fin coil to freeze up and prevent effective cooling.  If the thermostat is positioned mid way, (usually are positions 5, 6, or 7) comfortable room temperatures will be obtained.  It is unhealthy for the room temperature to be lower than approximately 22 degrees C.  The position 10 (or 16 to 18 degrees C) is for reverse cycle heating.  When it is a 10 degree day you can set the air conditioner thermostat to 16 or 18 where it will warm the room to this temperature in an economical way. In other words, air conditioners are not meant to cool a room to 16 degrees C, but it will heat the room to 16 degrees C on reverse cycle.

7. LEGIONNAIRES DISEASE.

Has never been pinpointed to Evaporative Cooling.  Most outbreaks have been traced to cooling towers associated with refrigerated air conditioners – NEVER TO EVAPORATIVE COOLERS.  You have more chance of getting Legionnaires from Potting Mix or going to a large Shopping Centre where they use Cooling Towers for air conditioning the centre.  Legionnella bacteria require hot moist conditions to multiply.  The water temperature in evaporative coolers is too cool for the bacteria to multiply.

8. MAKE SURE YOU SPEAK TO SOMEONE WHO IS COMPETENT IN ANSWERING ALL OF YOUR QUESTIONS WHEN PURCHASING AIR CONDITIONING.

Do they know how to size up a room for the best size air conditioner?  Remember we are in Central Queensland and it is a lot warmer here than in Brisbane or Sydney.  Heat ratings are very important when it comes to purchasing the correct size unit.  There are also many other factors to take into account when purchasing units.

9. EVAPORATIVE COOLERS.

Hot air is drawn through a water-moistened filter and blown through the house.  To work effectively, windows and/or doors must be left open so that moist air can be exhausted out of the house.  On humid days the highest fan speed should be used, and if it is very humid, turn off the water supply to the cooler and run the fan only.  Evaporative Coolers have the lowest running costs.  They do need servicing every 12 months to keep them in the most efficient condition.

10. REFRIGERATED AIR CONDITIONERS.

Remove heat from the air inside the home and transfer this heat outside.  Refrigerated air conditioners have the highest running costs. They cool, dehumidify, and recirculate room air as a closed system (windows and doors must be shut).  Thermostats should be set no lower than 22 degrees C.  Each degree you lower the thermostat, increases the running costs by up to 15%.  Refrigerated units only cool between 10 to 15 degrees C below ambient.  For example if it is a 45 degree C day, the best your air conditioner will do is between 30 and 35 degrees C no matter how big the unit.

11. BEFORE PUCHASING A COOLING SYSTEM.

There are many improvements that can be made around the house, making it naturally cooler in summer including shading the windows from the outside with blinds, awnings or trees, using reflective tints or toned glass in windows, insulation in the ceiling space, and ventilation in the ceiling space (eg Whirly Birds).

12. REFRIGERATED AIR CONDITIONERS.

Require maintenance to keep them cooling efficiently.  Change or clean the air filter monthly.  Make sure there is sufficient air flow to the outside of the air conditioning unit.  Newer units should be serviced at least every two years by a qualified refrigeration mechanic to check the parts you can’t see, and clean parts that you can’t get to.  You would be surprised at the amount of dust, dirt and mould that accumulates in refrigerated air conditioners.

13. IS YOUR FILTER CLEAN?

If you haven’t cleaned the filter on your air conditioner for a while it probably can’t breathe.  The next power bill might take your breath away too.  So clean your filter to save power and money.

14. TOO COOL CAN COST.

Setting your air conditioner on a cooler temperature doesn’t necessarily cool down a room any quicker.  In fact, because the room is hot, your air conditioner has to work really hard to reach such a temperature.  The most efficient temperature to set your air conditioner at in summer is 25 degrees for maximum comfort and to save on your power bills.
